He utilizes one of his preferred techniques to win 8 ryo in a rigged gambling game, which leads the local criminals to attempt to kill him, initiating the adventure. During these events, Zatoichi encounters a blacksmith named Senzo. Senzo examines Zatoichi's cane sword and identifies that the weapon was forged by his own former mentor. This meeting leads to a critical discovery regarding the state of the blade. Senzo determines that the sword has reached the end of its usefulness and warns that the weapon will break the next time it is used in combat. The film has a runtime of one hour and 33 minutes and was released in Japan on January 3, 1967. It is also known for the apprentice of the swordsman who originally created the blade relaying this concerning news about the weapon.
