Overview

Worst Cooks in America is an American competitive reality television series that debuted in 2010. The program, classified as a reality‑and‑comedy show with a TV‑G rating, airs on the Food Network. Each season features between twelve and sixteen participants who are identified as having limited cooking ability. Over an eight‑week culinary boot camp the contestants receive instruction in fundamental techniques such as baking, knife work, temperature control, seasoning and food preparation. The training is overseen by professional chefs who guide the recruits through a series of skill‑building tasks. At the conclusion of the boot camp the competitors face a final test in which they must produce a restaurant‑quality three‑course dinner for three food critics. Success in the competition is rewarded with a cash prize of $25,000. The series combines elements of competition, instruction and entertainment, documenting the transformation of novice cooks into capable chefs while maintaining a light‑hearted tone overall.
