Thunder on the Hill is a 1951 American film noir crime drama directed by Douglas Sirk. Produced by Michael Kraike for Universal-International Pictures, the film features a screenplay written by Oscar Saul and Andrew Solt, which is based on the play Bonaventure by Charlotte Hastings. The cast includes Claudette Colbert and Ann Blyth. The story is set at a convent presided over by Sister Mary. During a period of bad weather, a convicted murderess named Valerie, who is being escorted to Death Row, becomes stranded at the convent. As the narrative unfolds, Sister Mary becomes increasingly convinced that Valerie is innocent of the crime for which she was convicted. Consequently, Sister Mary takes it upon herself to investigate the case in an effort to clear the young woman and bring the actual killer to justice. The film, which has a runtime of one hour and twenty-four minutes, was released in the United States on October 17, 1951. It is categorized under the genres of drama and mystery.
