The Story of Saiunkoku is a television series set in a world of eight provinces or houses, each named after a different color. The series takes place in the imperial palace, where the new Emperor has gained a reputation for being uninterested in courtly matters. The Emperor's reputation is also tied to his personal life, specifically his relationships with men. The series follows a young woman from a notable family who accepts an invitation to become the Emperor's concubine, with the goal of influencing him to become a better ruler.
