The Racer 2020

Overview

The Racer is a 2020 sports drama film that falls into the drama and comedy genres, with a runtime of one hour and thirty-five minutes. Set in the summer of 1998, the story follows the opening stages of Le Tour de France as they are relocated to Ireland. The film stars Louis Talpe, Matteo Simoni, Tara Lee, Iain Glen, and Karel Roden. The central character is Dom Chabol, a Belgian rider in his late thirties who has spent the last twenty years as one of the best domestiques, or support riders, on the Tour. This sacrificial role involves setting the pace, blocking the wind, and supporting the team sprinter to secure victory, meaning winning is never an option for him. Despite this, Dom secretly harbors a desire to wear the yellow jersey just once before his career concludes. At the start of what is likely to be his final Tour, Dom is unceremoniously dropped from the team to which he has dedicated his life, alongside his best mate Sonny.
