Overview

The Last Taboo is a feature-length documentary film released in 2025. The film addresses the topic of homosexuality in professional football, noting that out of five hundred thousand active male football professionals worldwide, fewer than ten are openly homosexual. While homosexuality hardly plays a role in other areas of life today, the subject remains completely taboo in professional football. The documentary features Thomas Hitzlsperger alongside individuals who broke this taboo, allowing them to share their very personal stories. Among them is British professional footballer Justin Fashanu, who was born in London in 1961, broke the taboo for the first time in 1990, and died in London in 1998. Additional cast members appearing in the film include Amal Fashanu, Collin Martin, and Matt Morton. The documentary has a runtime of one hour and thirty-four minutes.
