Overview
The Hakkenden: Legend of the Dog Warriors is a 1990 television series set during the war-torn feudal wars of Japan. The narrative begins when the Awa clan faces the threat of extinction from a rival clan supported by demonic forces. A careless promise made by the lord of the Awa clan leads to a complex situation involving the clan's dog, which returns with the head of the enemy warlord and demands to marry the lord's daughter. Following their unnatural union and subsequent deaths, the eight unborn pups are reincarnated as the eight Dog Warriors known as the Hakkenden. As the story progresses, these individuals gradually locate one another and assemble as a unified group. Each of the eight warriors serves to represent one of the eight separate aspects of the Bushido code. The series follows their journey as they fulfill their destiny as the legendary protectors emerging from this historical conflict.
