The Grave 2020

Overview

The Grave is a 2020 Bangladeshi English language drama film written and directed by Gazi Rakayet. Based on the journey of an undertaker, the film is a Bangladesh Government and Impress Telefilm funded joint venture. It stars Gazi Rakayet in the title role, alongside Dilara Zaman, Deepanwita Martin, Moushumi Hamid, and Sushom. The story follows a grave digger named Shirja Mia, who begs from village to village to receive news of deaths. In his life, he holds only two things: a doll that he purchased for his daughter and a number passed down from his ancestors. His ancestors held the belief that any person who could successfully dig one hundred graves would secure a place in heaven, though no one had ever reached this target. When Shirja was young, he traveled to a Char, where he married and had a daughter named Rahela. After traveling to town for work, Rahela requested a doll, which he eventually bought.
