The Ghost and Mr. Chicken is a 1966 comedy, family, mystery, and romance film released in the United States on January 20, 1966. The story follows Luther Heggs, a typesetter for a small-town newspaper who aspires to be a reporter and win the affection of Alma Parker. Luther pitches an idea for a feature story concerning a local mansion that was the site of a murder and suicide twenty years prior. After his editor assigns him to spend a night alone in the house, Luther experiences a series of supernatural encounters. He writes a front-page story about his experience, which initially transforms him into a hometown hero. However, his newfound fame is challenged when the nephew of the deceased sues him for libel. The production, which carried the working title Running Scared, was a box office success and led to a series of subsequent comedy films featuring Don Knotts. The film has a runtime of one hour and thirty minutes and is rated G.
