Overview
The Garden of Sinners: A Study in Murder - Part 2 is a 2009 Japanese animated film produced by ufotable. Based on the novels by Kinoko Nasu, the film serves as the seventh installment in the series. It was preceded by the 2008 film Oblivion Recording and was followed by the 2013 sequel Future Gospel. The production features direction by Ei Aoki, Takayuki Hirao, Hikaru Kondô, Takuya Nonaka, and Mitsuru Obunai, with voice performances by Maaya Sakamoto, Ken'ichi Suzumura, Takako Honda, and Ayumi Fujimura. The story is set in February 1999, when a string of murders puts Shiki Ryougi and Mikiya Kokutou on edge. These crimes bear a resemblance to a series of homicides that occurred in 1995, the year Shiki and Mikiya first met. As the investigation unfolds, the events awaken a dark, murderous desire that had remained dormant within Shiki's soul since their initial encounter. The film, which has a runtime of two hours, is classified as animation, fantasy, mystery, romance, action, and crime. It was released in Japan on August 8, 2009.
