Overview

The Diviners is a Canadian television film that aired on CBC Television in 1993. Based on the best-selling novel by Margaret Laurence, the drama was directed by Anne Wheeler and has a runtime of one hour and fifty-seven minutes. The story follows Morag Gunn, a writer who experiences trouble and escalating situations with her teenage and rebellious daughter. To understand how things came to this, Morag examines her own relationship history, which includes a period of turbulence with Jules. Morag and Jules have known each other since childhood, but he is white while she is part Native American. This meant that the teenage Morag experienced racism that Jules can only imagine, and he is not a rock of stability. Even after they have a daughter together, Morag continues to struggle against the emptiness within her.
