Overview

The Art of the Illiterate is a documentary film released on June 21, 2024, in Spain with a runtime of 50 minutes. The documentary centers on a grandfather named Antonio, who was born on the street and lived as a vagabond until his marriage. As a child, Antonio and his father walked thousands of kilometres from Valencia to the Pyrenees in order to survive. Antonio previously attempted to write his memoirs, but he had to abandon the project because remembering his past life affected him too deeply. Seventy-five years later, the filmmaker and Antonio walk the same historical route together. The project uses cinema as a medium to help bring out the memories that are stuck in Antonio's head and to encourage him to finish writing his book.
