Overview
The Art of Joy is a television drama series that premiered in 2025. Based on the 1998 novel of the same name by Goliarda Sapienza, the Italian-language production is titled L'arte della gioia. The six-part series aired on Sky Atlantic from 28 February to 14 March 2025. The story follows the life of Modesta, who was born into a poor family in rural Sicily on January 1, 1900. Throughout her life, Modesta seeks happiness while resisting societal constraints. Following a tragic event that separates her from her family, she is taken in by a monastery. There, her intelligence and stubbornness lead her to become the protégé of the Mother Superior. Later, she moves to the villa of the Princess of Brandiforti, where she makes herself an indispensable figure. Her ongoing process of emancipation is marked by a journey of personal growth and sexual awakening.
