In the third episode of the twelfth season of Supernatural, titled The Foundry, the Winchester brothers, Sam and Dean, investigate a mysterious abandoned house. They are accompanied by their mother, Mary Winchester. The investigation is prompted by the sound of a crying baby, which leads to a death at the location. The brothers and their mother work to uncover the nature of the threat within the house.

Parallel to the events at the house, Castiel continues his search for Lucifer. This pursuit forces Castiel into an uneasy alliance with Crowley, as the two begrudgingly agree to partner together to track down the entity.
