Overview

Subterranea is a 2026 film that explores the internal struggles of a teenager named Fang Lin. The narrative follows Fang Lin as she navigates a stifling environment and experiences a falling out with her best friend, leading her to feel trapped in a state of ennui. As she grapples with a desire to cease existing, the natural world of Singapore begins to exhibit signs of magical activity. These environmental shifts manifest as a rumbling that threatens to break the levee, introducing a sense of impending disruption to the setting. The film, which has a runtime of 14 minutes, was released in Singapore on October 24, 2026. This cinematic work is distinct from the Kenyan science fiction television series of the same name, which focuses on eight strangers surviving in a bunker following the end of the world. By centering on the personal isolation of its protagonist alongside the mysterious transformation of the landscape, the film presents a focused look at one individual's experience within a changing environment.
