Strategist KANBE is a Japanese drama television series released in 2014, belonging to the drama and war and politics genres. The narrative begins in July 1590 in Odawara, where Toyotomi Hideyoshi's army had surrounded Odawara Castle for over three months. Hideyoshi hoped to conquer this last obstacle to his dream of the country's unification. Standing at the gate of the castle, a lone man facing the menacing guards shouted a warning not to throw their lives away and to treasure living. Not long after that event, the castle gates opened and the reigning lord surrendered. That man was Kuroda Kanbee, also referred to as Kanbe Kuroda. He was an ingenious military strategist who served three of Japan's most famous warlords and worked hand-in-hand with Hideyoshi to help unite feudal Japan through wit rather than weapons.
