Overview
Stargate Atlantis is a television series that serves as a spin-off from Stargate SG-1. The show premiered on July 16, 2004, following the conclusion of the seventh season of its predecessor, and the two programs continued to be released simultaneously. The series follows a scientific expedition led by Dr. Elizabeth Weir and Major Sheppard after the discovery of the Ancients' city of Atlantis in the Pegasus Galaxy. Upon arriving at the abandoned city, the team finds themselves unable to establish contact with Earth. Their explorations lead to the unexpected awakening of the Wraith, a deadly enemy that views the expedition members as prey. To survive, the Atlantis team forms alliances with local inhabitants, including Teyla Emmagan, while working to uncover the secrets of their new home. The series concluded after five seasons with the final episode, titled Enemy at the Gate, which aired on January 9, 2009. A follow-up film titled Stargate: Extinction was announced to continue the plot of the series.
