Overview

Sons and Daughters is an Australian soap opera created by Reg Watson and produced by the Reg Grundy Organisation. The series premiered on Monday, 18 January 1982, in Sydney and Melbourne during the Christmas and New Year non-ratings period. The program concluded its original run in 1987, with the official broadcast date of the final episode occurring on 19 August 1987, though the final screening in Melbourne took place on 27 December 1987. The show consists of 972 half-hour episodes, although later installments were broadcast in an hour-long format. The narrative centers on the wealthy Hamilton family and the working-class Palmer family, who are linked by a secret affair and twins separated at birth. One twin was raised in each family, and the Morell family later marries into the Hamilton family. The series features cast members including Ian Rawlings, Leila Hayes, Brian Blain, and Pat McDonald. Throughout its tenure, the production earned a Logie Award for its contribution to Australian television.
