In the fourth episode of the fourth season of the television series Smallville, Clark decides to join the football team despite Jonathan's wishes. Clark secures the starting quarterback position after his predecessor attacks Jason over a girl. While investigating the events surrounding the team, Clark and Lois discover that the cheerleaders are using kryptonite in the team's water supply. This scheme is designed to turn the football players into obedient, mindless boyfriends.

Smallville is an American superhero television series developed by writer-producers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar. The show is based on the DC Comics character Superman, who was originally created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. The series explores the origins of the world's greatest hero, beginning from the time of the Krypton refugee Kal-El. The fictional setting of the series is the small town of Smallville, which was famously impacted by a shower of meteors that changed the lives of many of its residents, including Lex, the son of the wealthy and ruthless Lionel Luthor.
