The Kents take in a young runaway named Ryan, who possesses the power to read minds. Clark soon discovers Ryan's abilities and learns that he is immune to them. Ryan's stepparents, who have been abusive, are revealed to have plans to exploit Ryan's powers for financial gain. They intend to use Ryan's abilities against Lex.
