Skate Kitchen 2018

Overview

Skate Kitchen is a 2018 drama and comedy film that explores the experiences of an all-women skateboarding collective in New York City. The story follows an eighteen-year-old character named Camille, a lonely suburban teenager whose life changes after she befriends the group. As Camille integrates herself into this raw subculture, she navigates the complexities of friendship and self-discovery. Her involvement in the skateboarding scene is complicated by an overbearing mother who disapproves of the activity following a past accident. The film features a cast that includes Rachelle Vinberg in the lead role of Camille alongside Jaden Smith. The narrative highlights the group's freewheeling lifestyle and their shared passion for skateboarding, which they often document on social media. Directed to capture a sense of verisimilitude, the production draws on the real-life dynamics of the actual Skate Kitchen collective. The film has a runtime of one hour and forty-six minutes and was released in the United States on August 10, 2018.
