Shindig! is an American musical variety series that was broadcast on the ABC network. The program aired from September 16, 1964, until January 8, 1966. The show was hosted by Jimmy O'Neill, who worked as a disc jockey in Los Angeles at the time. O'Neill created the series alongside his wife, Sharon Sheeley, and production executive Art Stolnitz. Although the original pilot for the program was rejected by ABC, the show was redeveloped and completely redesigned by David Sontag, who served as the executive producer for the network. A subsequent pilot was filmed featuring a new cast of artists and starring Sam Cooke. This second pilot ultimately served as the premiere episode of the series. The production focused on musical performances and functioned as a variety show during its tenure on television.
