Season overview

Shetland Season 1 follows Detective Inspector Jimmy Perez and his local police team as they investigate two intersecting mysteries on the remote Scottish archipelago. A young archaeologist uncovers a set of human remains, prompting the community to wonder whether the discovery is an ancient find or a contemporary crime. Shortly thereafter an elderly woman is shot on her own land in what is described as a tragic accident, drawing Perez and his colleagues into a dispute between two feuding families whose envy, greed and bitterness have divided the island community. The series is based on the novels of award‑winning crime writer Ann Cleeves and was adapted for television by David Kane.
