Overview
Shadowhunters, also known as Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments, is an American supernatural drama television series developed by Ed Decter. The show is based on the novel series The Mortal Instruments written by Cassandra Clare. It premiered in North America on Freeform on January 12, 2016. The series follows Clary Fray, who discovers on her 18th birthday that she comes from a long line of Shadowhunters, which are human-angel hybrids tasked with hunting demons. When her mother, Jocelyn, disappears and is subsequently kidnapped, Clary is forced into the dark world of demon hunting. To navigate this new reality, she joins a band of Shadowhunters, including a mysterious hunter named Jace and her best friend, Simon. Together, they become caught up in a larger plan to save the world. The series features a cast that includes Katherine McNamara, Dominic Sherwood, Alberto Rosende, and Matthew Daddario. Following its initial run, the show has been made available for viewing on various streaming platforms, including Netflix, Prime Video, Hulu, and Disney+.
