Overview
Sekirei is a Japanese anime series based on the manga created by Sakurako Gokurakuin. The story centers on Minato Sahashi, a nineteen-year-old who struggles with academic failure after twice failing his college entrance exams. His life changes when he encounters Musubi, an extraterrestrial being known as a Sekirei. Sekirei are super-powered humanoids who are physically indistinguishable from humans. Upon meeting Minato, Musubi kisses him, which initiates a bond and awakens his Ashikabi gene. This event draws Minato into a high-stakes competition involving other Sekirei. The series explores the consequences of this bond as Minato transitions from being regarded as a failure to participating in the dangerous world of the Sekirei. The manga source material was serialized in the magazine Young Gangan between 2004 and 2015, with an epilogue published later. The television adaptation, which aired between 2008 and 2010, features voice work from actors including Shinnosuke Tachibana, Saori Hayami, Marina Inoue, and Joel McDonald. The show is available to audiences through various streaming platforms.
