The series is a supernatural teen drama created by Megan Trinrud and Nate Trinrud, adapted from their own graphic novel with Maria Nguyen, and follows Maddie, a teen investigating her own mysterious disappearance while adjusting to high school purgatory alongside a group of other students who are also stuck in limbo at their high school.
