Saladin saves Samse, and this salvation brings them closer together. Their joy is short-lived as they learn of the Byzantine fleet landing in Damietta. The Crusader armies reach the gates of Cairo, leading to a surprising meeting between Saladin and King Amalric. Amalric, in collaboration with the Byzantine army, aims to reclaim Egypt. Meanwhile, in Jerusalem, Balian receives a sorrowful letter revealing Prince Baldwin has leprosy. As a king, Amalric prepares for war, but as a father, he is distressed by his son's illness. Baldwin's partial cure depends on Saladin, Hekim Latif. Amalric faces the challenge of reclaiming both Cairo and his son's future.
