Running on Sand is a 2023 comedy and drama film directed by Adar Shafran and produced in Israel. The film follows the story of Aumari, a young Eritrean refugee living in Israel who faces imminent deportation to his home country. During a spontaneous escape attempt at an airport, Aumari is mistaken for a professional Nigerian soccer player who was expected to arrive at the same time. He assumes this new identity to avoid deportation and becomes a key acquisition for the struggling Maccabi Netanya football team. Despite lacking any actual soccer talent, Aumari manages to hide his secret while helping to heal divisions within the team. During his time with the club, he also develops a romantic bond with the unconventional daughter of the team owner. The film features a cast including Sean Mongoza, Kim Or Azulay, Zvika Hadar, Micheal Kabya-Aharoni, Moshe Ashkenazi, and Israel Atias.
