Episode recap
The episode titled “Running Martial Arts School: Trade the Cards” brings the regular cast of Running Man together with four guest participants—Keum Sae Rok, Lee Ju Young, Park Cho Rong and Kang Han Na. In keeping with the show’s format, each guest is paired with a member of the Running Man team, forming four distinct couples that compete in a series of race‑style challenges. The central mechanic of the episode revolves around a deck of cards that is divided into three categories: elements, punishments and prizes. At the start of the competition each couple draws a single card from this deck, and the two cards held by a team together determine the specific outcome that the pair will face during the game.
Throughout the episode the couples undertake a sequence of missions that serve two purposes. First, the missions act as the races that drive the competition forward, testing the participants’ speed, coordination and teamwork. Second, each mission provides an opportunity for the teams to exchange cards with one another, allowing the composition of each pair’s card combination to change as the episode progresses. By swapping cards, couples can attempt to convert an unfavorable combination—such as one that includes a punishment—into a more advantageous pairing that includes a prize element.
The structure of the episode reflects the broader premise of Running Man, a Korean variety program in which members regularly compete in a series of games and missions to win rewards and avoid penalties. In this installment, the added layer of the card system introduces strategic decision‑making, as participants must weigh the benefits of retaining their current cards against the potential gains of trading with other teams. The episode proceeds through the successive missions, with each round of card exchanges reshaping the competitive landscape until the final race determines which couple secures the ultimate prize. The combination of physical challenges, strategic card trading and the interaction between regular cast members and guests creates a self‑contained competition that aligns with the show’s established format of games, missions and rewards.
