Episode recap
In this episode the regular cast of Running Man stages a parody of the Cannes Film Festival called the “Ggannes Film Festival.” The concept turns the variety‑show format into a cinematic showcase, with the participants adopting the personas of well‑known Korean movie characters. Guest celebrity Jun Hyo Seong, known for both acting and singing, joins the regular members, as do actor Kang Tae Oh, comedian Heo Kyeong Hwan, and singer Yoyomi. Each guest appears in costume that references a classic Korean film role, adding a layer of homage to the festival’s theme.
The episode’s central conflict emerges when two directors, who are deliberately concealed among the participants, become dissatisfied with the proceedings. Their unhappiness is portrayed as a threat that could derail the entire festival, creating tension for the cast. The synopsis indicates that the hidden directors intend to “crash the show,” implying that they may sabotage the event or undermine its organization.
Resolution of the crisis depends on the combined efforts of the actors and a “national actor” who is also hidden among the group. The term “national actor” suggests a figure of recognized stature within Korean cinema, though the synopsis does not specify a name. Together, these individuals work to neutralize the disruptive influence of the disgruntled directors. Their actions are described as saving the festival, indicating that they succeed in preserving the event’s continuity and preventing the planned disruption.
The episode blends the variety‑show’s characteristic games and missions with a film‑festival motif, using costume play and role‑playing as a framework for competition. By integrating guest stars from music and acting backgrounds, the program expands its entertainment scope while maintaining the core premise of teamwork against an internal threat. The narrative concludes with the festival proceeding as intended, underscoring the cast’s ability to overcome hidden obstacles and maintain the celebratory atmosphere of the Ggannes Film Festival.
