Overview
The 1984 film Police Academy follows the implementation of new recruitment policies that remove requirements regarding sex, weight, height, and intelligence for joining the police force. Among the new recruits is a social misfit named Mahoney, who enrolls in the program as an alternative to serving a jail sentence. Upon arriving at the academy, Mahoney quickly finds himself in conflict with the boorish Lieutenant Harris. Despite these initial difficulties and his forced entry into the institution, Mahoney eventually discovers that he enjoys his role as a police cadet. As he decides that he wants to remain in the program, he continues to navigate the challenges presented by his training and his ongoing friction with Harris.
