Pippi Longstocking

Overview

Pippi Longstocking is the central character in a series of children's books created by Swedish author Astrid Lindgren. The character was named by Lindgren's daughter, Karin. The franchise began in 1945 with the publication of the first book, followed by titles such as Pippi Goes on Board and Pippi in the South Seas. The character is described as self-sufficient, quick-witted, and generous, and she is frequently recognized as one of the world's favorite children's characters. In her narrative, Pippi arrives in a small town with carrot-colored hair, freckles, mismatched stockings, a monkey, and a horse she can carry. She also possesses a large travel bag filled with gold coins. Her arrival changes the lives of the town residents, including two children named Tommy and Annika. These stories have been adapted multiple times into live-action and animated projects, including a 1969 Swedish production. Currently, Studiocanal, Heyday Films, Submarine, and The Astrid Lindgren Company are developing a new animated television series based on the original books.
