Pinocchio is a made-for-TV musical adaptation that was first broadcast on CBS on March 27, 1976. The film features a cast that includes Danny Kaye, Sandy Duncan, Flip Wilson, Clive Revill, and Liz Torres. It was directed by Ron Field and Sid Smith. The production is framed by the story of a young theater girl who desires to study and work apart from her father. Within this framing, the classic Carlo Collodi story is presented as a subplay. In this performance, the young theater girl stars as Pinocchio, and her father plays Geppetto. The narrative follows a lonely woodcutter or woodcarver who creates a puppet as a son from a block of wood. The marionette springs to life and ultimately fulfills its dream of becoming a real boy. The television movie has a run time of one hour and eighteen minutes, and it was also rerun on television on April 18, 1977.
