Payitaht: Abdulhamid season 1 takes place during the 20th year of the sultan's reign. The series involves a large-scale project, the Hejaz Railway, which is being sabotaged by various individuals, including the Sultan's brother-in-law, Mahmut Paşa, the Brits, and Theodore Herzl. In the harem, a rivalry exists between Bidar Sultan and Seniha Sultan, extending to their family. The sultan's brother Murad's daughters arrive at the palace, with his eldest daughter, Hatice Sultan, falling in love with Kemalettin Paşa and planning to marry him. Meanwhile, Naime Sultan, the Sultan's daughter, also falls in love with Kemalettin. Hatice Sultan pretends that Kemalettin loves Naime by giving her a letter written to Hatice. Mahmut Paşa slanders Mehmet Paşa, Bidar Sultan's brother, resulting in his exile. The series revolves around the Sultan's efforts to maintain the Ottoman Empire and Caliphate.
