Overview

Panfilov's 28 Men is a 2016 film that falls into the history, action, drama, and war genres. Set in the USSR in November 1941, the movie tells the story of Panfilov's Twenty-Eight, a group of twenty-eight Red Army soldiers commanded by General Ivan Panfilov. Based on the account by Vasiliy Koroteev, the narrative follows this group as they stop the advance on Moscow of a column of fifty-four Nazi tanks of the 11th Panzer Division for several days. Although they are lightly armed, the soldiers fight tirelessly and defiantly, demonstrating uncommon bravery and unwavering dedication in order to protect Moscow and their Motherland. The film retells one of the best-known stories of Soviet heroism in World War Two, arriving seventy-five years after the events depicted, and has been described by Russia's culture minister in connection with its release in Russia.
