Overview:
The narrative follows the Unsolved Crime and Open Case Squad of the Metropolitan Police Service. Following a hostage rescue that goes wrong, Detective Superintendent Sandra Pullman is placed in charge of unsolved crimes. Operating with limited resources and no backup, Pullman decides to recruit three former police officers to assist in her investigations. While these recruits possess significant experience, they face challenges as the landscape of policing has changed. The team consists of Jack Halford, who is struggling with the loss of his wife, and Brian Lane, who is described as over obsessed and over medicated. Additionally, Gerry Standing is no longer the ladies man he once was. As the squad works to chase criminals, they must also navigate relationships with a modern police force that does not always appreciate their traditional style of policing. This British comedy-drama highlights the friction between old-fashioned methods and contemporary law enforcement practices while the team attempts to solve cold cases.
