Overview

Neighbours is an Australian television soap opera that premiered in 1985. The series was created by Reg Watson and initially commissioned by the Seven Network, following the success of his previous soap, Sons and Daughters. Set in the fictional Melbourne suburb of Erinsborough, the show focuses on the domestic and professional lives of residents living on Ramsay Street and in the surrounding Lassiters complex. The original concept centered on three families—the Ramsays, the Robinsons, and the Clarkes—living as friends in a small street. Although it found early success in Melbourne, the show struggled with Sydney audiences and was cancelled by Channel Seven at the end of its first year. It was quickly picked up by Channel Ten, ensuring its continuation. The series became a long-running program, ultimately airing until 2025. Its storylines revolve around the personal relationships and daily challenges of the community, featuring both established and younger characters.
