Episode recap

In the second episode of the twentieth season of NCIS, titled Daddy Issues, the professional and personal responsibilities of Special Agent Timothy McGee collide. The investigation begins following a break-in at a government storage bunker. As the Major Case Response Team works to uncover the details of the crime, the case becomes complicated for McGee when a father from his children’s school is identified as being linked to the incident.

NCIS, which stands for Naval Criminal Investigative Service, follows the Major Case Response Team as they investigate criminal cases connected to United States Navy and Marine Corps personnel and their families. The series, created by Donald P. Bellisario and Don McGill, has maintained a long tenure on television, originating from two back-door pilot episodes of the show JAG that aired in April 2003.

The production features a long-standing cast, including Sean Murray, who portrays Timothy McGee. Murray, along with Brian Dietzen, is among the cast members who have been with the series since its early days, having appeared as a recurring character during the first season before becoming a series regular. The show continues to focus on the team as they handle matters ranging from murder and espionage to terrorism and stolen military assets. In this specific episode, the intersection of McGee’s domestic life as a parent and his duties as a federal agent creates a unique conflict as he navigates the investigation involving a member of his school community. The team must work to resolve the security breach at the government storage facility while McGee manages the personal implications of the suspect's identity. The episode highlights the ongoing nature of the team's work, which often requires them to balance the complexities of their private lives with the high-stakes demands of their investigations into crimes affecting the military and the government.
