S12·E16 Blast from the Past

Episode recap

The television series NCIS follows the Major Case Response Team of the NCIS as they investigate criminal cases connected to United States Navy and Marines Corps personnel and their families. The show, which premiered following back-door pilot episodes on JAG in April 2003, features characters and cast members such as Sean Murray, David McCallum, Mark Harmon, Brian Dietzen, and Rocky Carroll.

In the season twelve episode titled Blast from the Past, the case begins when a murder victim is discovered living under a covert identity. This covert identity was originally created for one of Gibbs' undercover cases dating back twenty years. As the team investigates, the resurfacing of this old alias ties the current murder victim directly to the past undercover operation.

The Major Case Response Team handles various investigations involving the military, ranging from murder and espionage to terrorism and stolen submarines, but this specific inquiry requires confronting history from two decades prior. The episode centers on uncovering how the victim came to inhabit the covert identity and how it connects to the past case.
