My Best Friend's Exorcism 2022

Overview

My Best Friend's Exorcism is a horror-comedy film released in 2022 that serves as an homage to the high-school and scary movies of the 1980s. Directed by Damon Thomas and produced by Amazon Studios, the film is set in 1988 and captures the aesthetic of the decade through details like bright pink eyeshadow, large hairstyles, and period-specific products. The plot follows two best friends, Abby and Gretchen, who have been close since the fourth grade. Their relationship faces a supernatural test after a night of skinny-dipping goes wrong, leading Gretchen to undergo a disturbing transformation. As Gretchen begins to act differently, Abby becomes convinced that her friend has been possessed by a demon. Abby then embarks on a quest to save Gretchen, enlisting the help of unlikely allies to determine if their friendship is strong enough to defeat the devil. The film, which is adapted from a novel by Grady Hendrix, premiered at the Aero Theatre in Santa Monica and is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
