Synopsis
It could not be more perfect that Phil's birthday and the release date of a hot new product coincide, and he wants nothing so much as to be one of the first people to get one; this is Claire's mission. Meanwhile, before coming to Phil's party, Mitchell is preoccupied with a new found desire to toughen up, Cameron gets himself involved in a neighbor's marital problems, and it's Jay against Gloria and Manny in chess.

The episode titled Game Changer presents several interlocking stories involving the diverse family set-up featured in the series. It happens that Phil's birthday coincides with the release date of a hot new product, and he wants nothing so much as to be one of the first people to get one. Fulfilling this desire becomes Claire's mission.
Meanwhile, before coming to Phil's party, Mitchell is preoccupied with a newfound desire to toughen up. At the same time, Cameron gets himself involved in a neighbor's marital problems. Elsewhere, a household contest develops as it is Jay against Gloria and Manny in a game of chess.
The series follows the lives of these three diverse but interrelated family set-ups living in suburban Los Angeles, consisting of the Pritchett, Dunphy, and Tucker clan.
