Overview
Mobile Suit Gundam is a Japanese anime television series that premiered in Japan. The series was created and directed by Yoshiyuki Tomino and produced by Nippon Sunrise. It follows the story of teenager Amuro Ray whose life is shattered when war comes to his home. During the chaos, Amuro finds himself inside the mobile suit Gundam, the Earth Federation's new secret weapon, and he somehow gets it to work. The series aired on Nagoya Broadcasting Network and its affiliated ANN stations. Yoshiyuki Tomino is credited as the creator and director of the series, with Yoshikazu Yasuhiko doing the character designs and Kunio Okawara responsible for the mechanical designs, including the titular giant robot, the RX-78-2 Gundam. The series consists of 43 episodes and was first broadcast in 1979.
