Mission: Impossible is an American espionage television series created by Bruce Geller and produced by Desilu Productions. The program aired on the CBS network for seven seasons, beginning on September 17, 1966, and concluding on March 30, 1973. The series chronicles the assignments of a team of secret government agents known as the Impossible Missions Force. During the first season, the team is led by Dan Briggs, portrayed by Steven Hill. For the remaining seasons, the team is led by Jim Phelps, played by Peter Graves. Other cast members featured in the series include Martin Landau, Barbara Bain, Greg Morris, and Peter Lupus. A hallmark of the show involves the team leader receiving instructions via a recording that self-destructs after playback. This sequence is followed by the theme music composed by Lalo Schifrin. The IMF team is tasked with taking on various top-secret assignments throughout the duration of the series.
