In the episode Ladybug from the animated series Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir, Marinette faces a difficult situation involving her scheming nemesis Lila. Lila manipulates all of Marinette's friends, causing them to turn against her. The manipulation escalates to the point where Marinette gets expelled from school.

The series itself, which began airing in 2015, follows Marinette and Adrien, two Parisian teenagers who are entrusted with powers. The show is classified under the action, adventure, animation, and kids genres, and serves as a homage to the superhero and magical girl genres. Among the characters featured in the series are Marinette Dupain-Cheng, whose English dub voice is provided by Cristina Vee and French voice by Anouck Hautbois, alongside other characters who make up the cast of the French superhero team known as the Miraculers.
