Milica Tomić 2026

Overview

Milica Tomić is a 2026 historical drama film that explores the life of one of the most significant women in Serbian history during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Directed by Sonja Rakić, with Nikola Spasić serving as co-director, co-writer, and creator, the film has a runtime of one hour and thirty-five minutes. The narrative centers on the events of January 4, 1890, when political activist Jaša Tomić murdered Miša Dimitrijević, a reporter for the newspaper The Wall, after Dimitrijević publicly shamed Tomić’s wife, Milica. Following the murder, Jaša Tomić received a seven-year prison sentence. Left feeling outraged, ashamed, and marginalized by these events, Milica seeks to reclaim her reputation and clear her name. Utilizing the newspaper The Flag, she works to improve the status and living conditions of women throughout the Austro-Hungarian regions of Vojvodina and Banat. The film, which also incorporates elements of romance and documentary, was released on October 9, 2026, and premiered at the FEST film festival.
