Matchless Raijin-Oh is a Japanese anime television series that falls within the animation, kids, action and adventure, and science fiction and fantasy genres. The program was produced by Sunrise and funded by Tomy. It consists of 51 episodes and originally aired in Japan from April 3, 1991, to March 25, 1992. The series is recognized as the first generation of the Eldran franchise.
The plot follows the warrior of light known as Eldran and his robot, Raijin-Oh. After sustaining injuries during a battle against the Jaku Empire, which originates from the 5th-dimensional world, Eldran and his robot fall into a 5th-grade classroom at Hinobori School. Because Eldran is incapacitated, the students of the 5th-grade class take on the responsibility of protecting the Earth. Operating under the name Earth Defense Class, these students act on behalf of the damaged warrior to defend the planet. The series is also known by its Japanese title, Zettai Muteki Raijin-Oh, which translates to Absolutely Invincible Raijin-Oh.
