Overview
Marlene is a 2020 Canadian docudrama film directed by Wendy Hill-Tout that centres on the case of Steven Truscott through the eyes of his wife Marlene. The film is inspired by the true story of a housewife who fought to exonerate her husband from a crime he did not commit. Steven was arrested at fourteen years old and sentenced to be hung, spending many years in prison after being wrongfully convicted. When Steven was released from prison ten years later, Marlene fell in love with him. Her story involves hiding, living under an assumed name, and protecting her children. Although Steven was free, Marlene effectively found herself imprisoned by the circumstances of their life, yet she remained determined that he would get justice and that they would find light in the darkness.
