Overview
Marisol is a drama film released in the United States on September 1, 2023, with a runtime of one hour and thirty-five minutes. Directed by Kevin Abrams, the film tells the story of Marisol Rivera, a first-generation Mexican-American whose goal is to attend college. To achieve this, she spends her mornings cleaning horse stalls and her evenings studying. With a scholarship secured, she prepares to leave Southwest Texas and start a new phase of her life. However, her plans are disrupted when she is falsely accused of a crime, which leads her to learn the heartbreaking truth that she is undocumented. Consequently, Marisol is forced to go on the run. While evading authorities, she encounters a kind America while navigating a harsh bureaucratic system. Framed as a coming-of-age story through the lens of immigration, the film critically examines systemic oppression and the causality of racism.
