Lights Out is a television series that transitioned from a popular American old-time radio program. The radio series, which aired from January 1934 to the summer of 1947, was an early example of a network series devoted to horror and the supernatural. It eventually made the transition to television, with NBC Television bringing it to the small screen in a series of four specials in 1946. These specials were broadcast live and produced by Fred Coe, who also contributed to the scripts. The television series, which premiered on July 12, 1949, was the first TV dramatic program to use a split-screen display. It aired on NBC until September 29, 1952.
