The story follows Julien Pauphilat, who works as the doorman at the famous restaurant Maxim's and serves as a confidant to many of his customers. Through this position, he has earned a comfortable living and purchased a country mansion, and he is now looking forward to retirement and a quiet life. However, his peaceful plans are threatened by the upcoming wedding of his daughter, Genevieve, to Andre du Velin, a well-born playboy. While Genevieve is unaware of her father's true profession, her fiancé does not see any problem with it. The film was released in France on August 16, 1953.
